SOSA Advent Project 2020: Emergency Response to COVID-19

In this year of the COVID crisis, we have chosen a special fund of the United Church’s Mission and Service Fund as our 2020 Advent Project. In a response to the crisis, Mission & Service has set up a fund to directly help those affected by the Pandemic - “Emergency Response-COVID-19".  Working closely with Mission & Service partners, the United Church and our members are helping provide food and other essential services to many communities in crisis in the global South.

With this Response Fund, 100% of donations go directly to emergency relief with 85% of donations responding to the COVID crisis and 15% of donations set aside to respond to future emergencies that do not receive intense media coverage.

The impact of the global pandemic is harsher for those living with pre-existing conditions and in situations of poverty and poor access to health care. The UN World Food Programme now estimates those needing urgent food assistance globally will more than double to 270 million because of COVID-19.

The United Church is part of a worldwide network of faithful people responding to this global crisis, making a difference for the most vulnerable people in the world.

Please consider supporting our Advent Project by sending a cheque, payable to BCUC with ‘Advent Project’ on the memo line, to the church office or by e-transfer choosing ‘treasurer@bcuc.org' as the email address and ‘Advent Project’ in the Message box.
